Not What We Expected

I have not written in a few days because I wanted to wait until the next round of the playoffs was decided. Thanks to the New York Yankees that took a day longer than expected.

First of all I will go on record right from the get go to say that my predictions were way off. I incorrectly called the Padres to beat the Rockies for the wild card spot, then I called the Phillies to beat the Rockies and neither of those things happened. That is the last time I bet against the Rox. They not only won, they won impressively, and honestly I don't think it's a fluke, they look good. They are solid at every position, and they don't make errors. At this point they are my pick to win it all.

Of course since I am a Cubs fan they lost again in the first round of the playoffs, even though they were heavily favored. I have yet to see anything good happen from the Cubs in my lifetime. I will just leave it at that, since I tend to get very angry the more I talk about it.

Also, I said the Yankees would come back and beat the Tribe. This is the most interesting one to me. First of all, because yes, I will say it again, it looks to me like they had another meltdown. But, in their defense, Cleveland played great. They look unstoppable at this point, but we will see when they run into a very good Red Sox team.

So, who goes to the Series? I will say Colorado and Boston at this point. Both teams will probably lose, but wow, what a postseason it has been so far, I think it can only get better.

I'm saying Rox/Tribe, Tribe wins.

I go with the Colorado Rockies from Denver, Colorado, USA versus the Boston Red Sox from Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Seriously, the Rockies are on fire and will not lose to a team as piddly as the Diamondbacks. The Rockies are going to redefine what we, the greater MLB public at large, thinks of when we think, "October Classic." No more pumpkin pie, apple cider, crisp autumn leaves, and the brutal martyrdom of Polycarp. No way baby. We're going to start thinking, "Colorado Rockies from Denver, Colorado, USA."

On the other hand, the Sox have all the pop appeal. When you have guys on your team with hair past their patella AND you have Bubba from Oklahoma buying your hat or jersey in a Wal-Mart in Tulsa, OK, you know you're doing something right.

Rox vs. Sox--haven't decided who wins.

there is no way you could look past colorado in the first round. they were smoking. they are so young that they have no idea what pressure is. i really think they will struggle this series because of the week off. the bats won't be quite as hot but the pitchers will have rested. i'd say this series goes 4-2 padres.

as for the yankees, their pitchers are washed up. they are going to struggle next year and that makes me so happy. i loved watching cleveland rock wang in the first and last game. and seeing a-rod struggle (except for 1 hr) was fun.

as an indians fan, i have a bias. but i really think this is going to be a good series. the indians pitchers have shown they are better than expected and the offense can be potent. the bosox have solid pitching as well and bulge with power in the middle of the batting order. i say indians win 4-2. CC will play in the 1, 4, and 6 games.

so padres vs indians. never woulda said that in april.

Ummmm........isn't Co. playing the Diamondbacks, not the Padres.

I must say that the Rockies look very good. I picked them for the first series, but this series is going to be really close. All 4 teams are very evenly matched and so the call is really hard to make. I wouldn't be suprised if each series went to 7. In the AL, I think Boston has the edge. They're out of their slump and they smashed the Angels. In the NL, wow, both teams are going to want it. When you get to this point in the season, it doesn't matter how young or inexperienced your team is, if you want it, you win. I'm going to say the Rockies, although I don't think they'll redefine the October classic as david from detroit said.

Summary: Rox and Sox; Torre get fired, la russa goes to the Yankees, Cox retires and Sid Bream comes out of retirement to manage the Braves.

First of all nobody was talking about the braves, mostly because they are not worth talking about. Secondly, yes, its the Rockies and Diamondbacks. I don't know where Cam got the Pads from. Thirdly, I disagree that the teams are evenly matched. On paper, maybe, but the Rockies are by far better than the snakes. I mean, their hitters are going to play games with the D'Backs and the D'backs will be lucky to get 2 runs a game. This series will come down to who can actually put runs on the board, and the Rockies are A LOT better at that than the D'Backs are.
